Earth Braces for Intense Solar Storm

NOAA Issues Rare Geomagnetic Storm Watch

X-Class Flare Triggers CME Impact

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has elevated its geomagnetic storm watch for May 11 to a rare G4 level, the first such alert in nearly two decades. This unprecedented warning comes as solar activity remains at elevated levels, with at least four coronal mass ejections (CMEs) heading towards Earth this weekend.

If the CMEs make contact with Earth's magnetic field, our planet could experience a severe geomagnetic storm. Experts warn that such a storm could disrupt power grids, communications, navigation systems, and satellites. The impact could be widespread, affecting critical infrastructure and daily life.

The recent X-class flare, which split into two simultaneous explosions, hurled a massive coronal mass ejection towards Earth. This CME, a colossal burst of solar wind, is expected to collide with our planet's magnetic field, triggering the geomagnetic storm.
